Be Opened...

Be Opened: Jesus' words to a deaf and mute stranger; words that became the prelude to new hearing and new speech.

Be Opened has become a watchword for us at St. James;

Be Opened to God: In worship and in faith formation that deepens our journey into mystery and meaning.

Be Opened to each other: In care for human hurt and in celebration of human gifts, in attitudes and actions that build up a community living out of the Gospel.

Be Opened to the World: in the work of making justice and making friends; in sharing the beauty of our artistic gifts, the passion of our ethical concerns, the sanctuary of our space. A vision of an active, growing, vital, open congregation that would serve the bishop and diocese as cathedral has always fueled the yearnings of our people.  Our growing numbers in the pews, the new energies emerging in social justice witness, enhanced hospitality to the diocese and the city, formation programs attending to spiritual hungers for adults and children - all of that bespeaks new openness in our midst.
