COMMUNITY CONCERNS IN THE ARTS
A series of Tuesday evening public forums and panel discussions in the Cathedral as part of the Keiskamma Altarpiece Exhibit.

Tuesday, April 1 – “The Keiskamma Story” –  6 to 8 pm   Eunice Mangwane and Noseti Makubalo, two of the makers of the Keiskamma Altarpiece, will share the story of its creation and the community from which is was created.

Tuesday, April 8 – “Individual Practice” – 6 to 8 pm  Bernard Williams, Preston Jackson and Marva Jolly, three established Chicago artists, will address social issues and community concerns in their artwork.

Tuesday, April 22 – “Community Practice” – 6 to 8 pm  Executive Directors of the Chicago Public Art Group and ArchiTreasures, and the Education Director of the Marwen Foundation, will each describe their organization’s unique way of working with local groups to create community-based public art, and how that process and its product contribute to social well-being.

Tuesday, April 29 – “Presenters and Funders” –  6 to 8 pm  Representatives from the Hyde Park Art Center, the Southside Community Center, Access Living, the Joyce Foundation and the Driehaus Foundation will discuss how their organizations seek to address social issues and community concerns through the arts while also promoting and nurturing artists.
