On Tuesday, April 17th, at 7:00PM, the Solemnization of a Holy Union was celebrated for our Associate Dean, the Rev. Kevin M. Goodman, and his partner of 12 years, Antonius Pulung-Hartanto. The Rt. Rev Jeffrey D. Lee, 12th Bishop of Chicago, presided, and The Very Rev Joy E. Rogers, preached. Many asked for a copy of Joy's sermon. We have posted it here. The Old Testament reading was Ecclesiastes 3:8-10. The New Testament reading was Romans 12:9-18. The Gospel reading was Matthew 5:1-12.

At every Eucharist in Lent we are naming in our prayers and before the altar, the murdered children of Chicago - over 600 since 2008 -- one more, a 6 year old girl last weekend. It is part of our preparation for CROSSWalk, a procession on Monday in Holy Week. An effort sponsored by this Cathedral, All Saints Church and the Diocese, in partnership with other agencies and faith communities.

Community. Compassion. Hope. St. James is a congregation living in to being a welcoming place, in the heart of the city of Chicago, offering community, compassion and hope. There are aspects of my spiritual journey that are similar to those things that connect many of us to our historic congregation.
