Children's Formation - Sundays at 10:00 a.m.
Sunday School is on vacation for the summer of 2015 and begins again Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
The Cathedral lower level is a dedicated space for the Cathedral Children and Youth Ministry. Here you will find the Sunday School Classrooms, Meeting Rooms, and the Nursery and Crib Room.
Nursery Care is offered Sunday mornings as well as during various Holy Day and Special Cathedral Services. A professional caregiver is on hand to work and play with the children in a secure and welcoming environment located directly under the Cathedral on the lower level. A video feed of the Cathedral Service is provided in the Nursery so that parents who wish to remain with their children can monitor the service, listen to the sermon, and make sure that they make it up in time for Communion. An adjacent and quiet crib room with convenient changing tables is available for infants.
The Cathedral Sunday School offers young people the opportunity to explore and develop their faith through the Episcopal/Anglican Tradition. Our children enjoy it and attendance is consistently high. Our young people are encouraged to participate in the life of our community and are given a number of outreach opportunities to express their life in Christ.
Our curriculum is Episcopal-based and rooted in the "3-legged stool" philosophy: Scripture, Reason and Tradition. Each concept is taught through a variety of ways with age and skill appropriate story-telling, discussion, art, and hands-on projects.
Sunday School meets every Sunday from mid-September until early June. Our young people gather with their teachers in their respective classrooms at 10:00 am. The class concludes promptly a few minutes before the 11:00 am service. The two younger classrooms gather for music each Sunday for a portion of the time.
Currently, we have three levels of Sunday School:
1. The Toddler Class This class consists of 3-year olds through kindergarten. They come together to learn and play, create and explore the love of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. This is a hands-on classroom and parental help is always welcome!
2. The Primary Class At this level our 1st through 3rd grade children meet to hear the stories of Creation and Salvation. Who is God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit? Who are we as the Church? What role do we have in bringing forth the Love of God in the world? These young people will be challenged with seasonal activities, art projects, community service and discussions about what it means to be a sister and brother of Jesus, a member of the church, and a good steward of God's Creation.
3. The Middler School The Middler Class is comprised of young people in the fourth grade on up. Depending on the year and make-up of ages this group can either stay and learn together or break up into two groups as they explore their faith and spirituality, discuss their time in between meetings and forge deeper relationships with one another and Christ. The Middlers build upon the knowledge and values they have learned over the years here in the Cathedral Sunday School, but newcomers are warmly welcomed to begin or continue their Religious Education as we share our life experiences and learn about God's love from one another.
