Giving & Stewardship
As a community of faith, we each have a responsibility to spread the glorious message of Christ’s salvation to all. The various ministries at St. James Cathedral work collectively and in their own unique fashion to accomplish this mandate. Whether helping to feed the homeless, praising the Lord in prayer and worship, visiting the sick or ministering to visitors through our musical gifts, St. James seeks to serve God in all persons.
Keeping the various missions and ministries alive and thriving is only possible through the support of generous givers, that is, those who give cheerfully of their time, skills and financial resources. Thanks to their commitment, St. James can fulfill our call to be a witness for God’s love, and to continue our more than 150-year heritage of vibrant and exciting worship, evangelism, outreach and outrageous hospitality.
Stewardship at St. James takes several different forms:
Annual Pledging Making and fulfilling an annual pledge of financial support is among the most essential commitments members of St. James Cathedral can make. Every cent of pledged income is a vital part of our fiscal well-being and annual budget, allowing St. James to offers its ministries and services to our members and the wider community. Whether you pledge at $1,000 a month or $1 dollar a week, every dollar counts!

Planned Giving Since our founding in 1834, many members have made generous contributions to St. James through wills and bequests. While our Endowment grew out of these historical gifts, today people can still support our missions and ministries by including the Cathedral in their wills, charitable giving trusts/plans, annuities, and through other financial planning. Beyond strengthening our financial well-being, planned gifts are also important to the Cathedral’s capital needs for maintaining and improving our building, the organ, and other assets. Please contact Business Manager, Tom Patterson (tpatterson@saintjamescathedral.org), for more information on planning a gift to St. James.
Memorial & Honor Gifts Throughout the years, many persons have been remembered at St. James by gifts made in their honor or memory. Memorial and honor gifts to the Cathedral have contributed to things ranging from the Popp Family Font to the Hessel Cathedral Banner. The Stewardship Ministry will be pleased to discuss honor or memorial giving opportunities with you.
Through God’s grace, the clergy, chapter, ministries and members of St. James have worked hard to create an environment where God’s love can flourish and grow. We are grateful for all who have contributed in making St. James a place where people can find fellowship and healing.
