SOCIAL JUSTICE

Social Justice

Our Social Justice team works on several levels, we call it the Three Floors of Social Justice. The first floor responds to the immediate physical needs of our brothers and sisters to provide basic needs: hunger, housing, safety. The second floor responds to services beyond basics:  like employment and legal services. St. James supports and makes referrals to agencies that provide these services. The third responds to our capacity to engage systems and change them for the benefit of the oppressed. HOW

Sandwich Sunday

Sandwich Sunday feeds hungry, often homeless, neighbors a hot breakfast and prepares a take away sack lunch on the third Sunday of the month.

Just Meals

Just Meals volunteers prepare and serve a hot dinner for hungry people on the first Tuesday of the month.

Pride Parade

Pride Parade, the Episcopal entry, supports the equal rights of all people and welcomes LGBT neighbors to our parishes.  The Cathedral joins ten Episcopal parishes in the diocese to march and disperse welcome cards to the parade crowd.

Summer in the City

Summer in the City provides a two-week enrichment camp helping children learn about themselves and diversity through friendship, community involvement, art and play in a safe and secure environment.

Human Rights

Human Rights study and action involves hosting Speakers, conducting book studies and participating in advocacy around the struggles of oppressed peoples.  We explore ways to bring justice to the issues. Examples of issues are LGBT exclusion and the Israeli's and Palestinian's conflict.

The Tithing Committee

The Tithing Committee provides small grants to organizations working to alleviate hunger.

Gun Violence

St. James' approach to Gun Violence involves members in advocacy campaigns to reduce gun violence.
