WE WELCOME CHILDREN AT WORSHIP
We encourage you to bring children of any age to worship. We have set up a "Kids at Prayer" area in the front of the Cathedral (closest to the nursery) especially for your little ones. Don’t worry if your children won’t sit still. We understand that is part of being a child. Feel free to move around. If your child needs to take a walk or get a drink of water, please feel welcome to tend to those needs. If you prefer to try our nursery, it is available for children up to three years of age.
NURSERY
The nursery at Saint James Cathedral, located in the Cathedral Lower Level, is a place where parents can gather to watch their children play, as well as a place they can feel confident to leave their children, knowing they will be in a safe, secure and in a fun environment. Although designed primarily for babies and toddlers, older children, such as siblings, are also welcome. If you have any questions, stop by on Sunday morning and speak with the Nursery Supervisor. Nursery Hours: Sundays 9:00 am to 12:15 pm (and other times, as announced)
HANDICAP ACCESS
A wheelchair ramp into the Cathedral is located on the plaza to the east of the Cathedral (along Huron). Take the ramp to the upper plaza and enter the double glass doors at the back of the Cathedral. The Diocesan Center (65 E. Huron), including Burrill Hall, the Cathedral Offices (2nd floor) and conference rooms are accessible by the elevator in the building.
OFFICE HOURS
The office of the Cathedral is located on the 2nd floor of 65 E. Huron (behind the Cathedral). Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (Fridays until 3:00 pm in the Summer).
DIRECTIONS
St. James Cathedral is located in the heart of Chicago on the corner of East Huron Street and North Wabash Avenue. Easily accessible by public transportation, the Cathedral is near the Chicago Avenue stop on the CTAs Red Line and close to the Michigan Avenue bus routes (Superior or Erie stops). (GO TO GOOGLE MAP)
PARKING
Finding a spot for your car in downtown Chicago can be difficult, so we’ve arranged reduced rates at this nearby public parking lot. Please be aware that St. James Cathedral cannot take responsibility in the event a discount is not deducted at the time you pay for your parking.
ROW Self Park at 50 East Ohio
(between Rush and Wabash - enter on Ohio or Rush) $2 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. SUNDAYS ONLY. Ask a St. James usher in the Narthex for a rebate ticket.
THE LABYRINTH
An outdoor labyrinth is located on the upper level of the plaza between the Cathedral building and 65 East Huron. All are welcome to use it at anytime. Labyrinths have been used for centuries as a way to center the mind and heart. For more information about labyrinths we suggest a visit to the website of Veriditas, The Voice of the Labyrinth Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing people to the healing, meditative powers of the labyrinth.
