Building Redevelopment
LATEST NEWS (August 8, 2007): On July 31, 2007, the Cathedral Chapter voted unanimously to move forward with renovations of the Cathedral undercroft, narthex, and guild hall, and to make the Cathedral west end handicap accessible. Read the Wardens' letter with more details. See Cathedral Designs
Plans are still well underway for a spectacular new building to be built at 65 East Huron, the current site of offices and meeting space for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and St. James Cathedral. The lower floors of the 4-story, elliptical, glass-clad building will house Diocesan and Cathedral program space, and a restaurant. See Tower Designs
Higher floors will house a 65,000 square-foot Canyon Ranch health and wellness center, 100 hotel-condominiums connected with Canyon Ranch, and 330 private condominiums.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2008, with completion in 2010.
