Saint James Cathedral

July 9-22, 2007

Cathedrals have been special places of wondrous creativity throughout the centuries. They have been centers of learning and adventure, where profound discoveries are made and journeys are taken. At St. James Cathedral, we believe that young people are searching for just such adventure.

The City of Chicago and St James Cathedral have been the meeting place for young people throughout our metropolitan area for the past six Summers during our Summer in the City summer-camp program. They have the opportunity to encounter themselves and each other through the life of a great City filtered through the eyes of one of our nation’s great Cathedrals. Summer in the City allows participants to experience Chicago in a way most kids never dare to dream, in a loving and encouraging environment.

Activities and Artists-in-Residence have included:

500 Clown Theatre (clown & trapeze school)
  The Joffrey Ballet (dance)
The Second City Chicago Improv Co. (writing & performance)
    Striding Lion Inter-Arts Workshop (theatre)
     Choir School
Shanti Foundation for Peace (visual arts & character education)
Street Level Youth Media (video arts)

         Lots of good food!
