Sundays at 9:15 a.m. - Burrill Hall for ages 3 through High School
Nursery Care Sundays 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The nursery at Saint James Cathedral, located just off Burrill Hall, on the lower level of 65 E. Huron, is a place where parents can gather to watch their children play, as well as a place they can feel confident to leave their children, knowing they will be in a safe, secure and in a fun environment. Although designed primarily for babies and toddlers, older children, such as siblings, are also welcome. If you have any questions, stop by on Sunday morning and speak with our Nursery Supervisor. The nursery is located on the lower level of the Diocesan Center, across from the elevator.
We encourage you to bring children of any age to worship. We have set up a "Kids at Prayer" area in the front of the Cathedral (closest to the nursery) especially for your little ones. Don’t worry if your children won’t sit still. We understand that is part of being a child. Feel free to move around, If your child needs to take a walk or get a drink of water, please feel welcome to tend to those needs.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for Ages 3 - 5 with Kathy Garness and Vinnie Orpen
In 1987, St. James Cathedral was one of the first churches in the Chicago area to implement the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, an internationally renowned program for teaching children to learn about and explore the Christian faith. Grounded in the Montessori Method, the program is centered in the Bible, lived out in liturgy, and supported by beautiful yet simple materials that make the mystery of God concrete. The program cultivates in children a deep relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and encourages the development of three essential qualities of Christian faith: Simplicity, Contemplation and Joy. A community of parents and other volunteers has come together at the Cathedral to guide and staff our Sunday School.
