Treble Festival Registration

Walden Moore will lead the annual Treble Festival at St. James Cathedral, Chicago, Feb. 15 and 16, 2020. Walden is one of America’s leading choir trainers, serving as Director of Music at historic Trinity Church on the Green for over thirty years. He also teaches liturgical keyboard skills on the faculty of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Walden is not only an excellent musician but also a consummate pastor, investing the in the spiritual growth of the children he works with.

The festival is open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 who sing treble. The choristers will sing Evensong with the professional ATB from the Cathedral Choir. All choirmasters are invited to observe Walden working with the choristers.

The cost to attend is just $20 per chorister to cover the cost of lunch. St. James offers this festival as an extension of our mission as the Episcopal Cathedral of Chicago.

Schedule

Saturday, February 16

  • Welcome from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
  • Rehearsal from 10 a.m. to 12 noon
  • Lunch and fellowship time from 12 noon to 12:45 p.m.
  • Rehearsal from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, February 17

  • Rehearsal with Cathedral Choir ATB from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Evensong at 4 p.m.

Travel Information

St. James Cathedral is located at the corner Huron and Wabash in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. Choristers will assemble at the Welcome Center, just off the plaza behind the Cathedral apse. The Cathedral is easily accessible from the CTA Red Line and 145, 146, 147, and 151 busses. While the Cathedral does not have a parking lot, parking is available at Ohio Ontario Self Park (33 W Ontario) for $9 on Saturday, and the ROW Parking Garage (50 E Ohio Street) for $3 up to 6 hours on Sunday. Please see the desk attendant in the St. James Welcome Center for validation.

Choristers traveling from out of town are eligible for a discounted rate at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel, just blocks from the Cathedral. Cite the St. James Cathedral Treble Festival block when booking the room directly with the hotel.

What To Bring

Each chorister must bring a copy of all the choral pieces, a black binder or folder, and their choir robe. Choristers must also wear black shoes on Sunday.

Registration

Each chorister must have the following completed by Feb. 1, 2020:

  • Register below
  • Pay a $20 registration fee online and selecting "Treble Festival Registration" fund

                          or

by mailing a check made payable to St. James Cathedral, 65 E Huron St, Chicago, IL 60611 with “Treble Fest” and the chorister’s name in the memo line.
