Pet Blessing Evensong

Sunday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.

As Episcopalians, we believe in living more simply, humbly, and gently on the Earth. As members of St. James, that includes honoring the special relationship we have with our pets. If you have a feathered, furry, or scaley loved one (or would just love to experience a bit of holy chaos!), meet at 3:30 p.m. on the plaza to process our animal companions in for a service in their honor.

When you visit St. James Cathedral for the Pet Blessing Evensong, expect to receive a warm welcome! Whether you are a committed follower of Christ, a first-time visitor who is joining a friend, or fall somewhere in between, you're not just welcome, you belong!

Plan your visit

The Pet Blessing Evensong is an afternoon filled with activity! Animal lovers and their pets join the procession that celebrates both human and non-human love for our creator!

It is not uncommon for people to either dress casually or formally when visiting the Cathedral. Our priority is that you to feel comfortable. Children are always welcome at St. James and would enjoy sharing a church service with their animal companions. The cathedral is accessible to people with limited mobility. An access ramp is located at the west end of the building, 65 E. Huron St.

Pet Blessing Schedule

  • Gather at 3:30 p.m. on the plaza for photos, fun, and treats for both pets and their humans!
  • Choral Evensong at 4 p.m. is a service of great music and scripture that provides a space to be still, tune into the divine, and pray for our world.
