St. James Celebrates Pride

July 02, 2025

As a conclusion to Pride Month, the St. James LGBTQ+ Affinity Group (yes, we all agree we need a new name!) led us in witnessing to God's inclusive love both inside and outside our doors. A group departed from the labyrinth early Sunday morning (complete with a special blessing from our guest preacher, the Rev. Michael Sullivan) to participate in the Pride Parade with the Chicago Coalition of Welcome Churches. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, another group staffed a hospitality table in the Cathedral narthex offering water, a place to cool off, and pride flags to remind everyone of the God's welcome of all. Special thanks to Russell and Jillyn from the LGBTQ+ Affinity Group for leading and organizing these activities.

Celebrating Pride Month at St. James

June 25, 2025

The St. James LGBTQ+ Affinity Group will have two options for people to get involved with the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 29:

  • A group that will be attending the parade will depart from the labyrinth outside of St. James Commons at 8:30 a.m. and head up to St. Peter's Episcopal Church for their 10 a.m. Eucharist. A few from St. James will walk in the parade and the rest of the group will view the parade from St. Peter's. Those interested in attending the parade may reach out to Jillyn Turunen for more information.
  • Another group will host a hospitality table in the narthex at St. James following the 11 a.m. service. Those interested in helping with the hospitality table may reach out to Russell Hatch for more information.
