New Bible Reading Group at St. James

New Bible Reading Group at St. James

Are you longing for a deeper way to engage scripture? Or reading our sacred texts in community with others?  Would you like to read, reflect, and explore the weekly Bible readings beyond church on Sunday?

You are invited to join in a lay Bible reading group where we will read together the lectionary Bible passages for the previous Sunday. This practice can deeply enrich the Sunday worship experience as well as provide a framework for reflecting in community and continuing conversations about the weekly readings. Rather than hearing the lectionary readings for the only time each Sunday, we will gather for a communal reflection process, which is a powerful way of growing in our faith and our Episcopal tradition together.

The vision is to gather a group of us where we will read each lectionary passage several times – and listen for what speaks to us – an ancient practice called lectio divina, and discuss how we understand the readings to impact our lives, world, and faith.

Holiday Cards for the Pinta Pride Project

October 29, 2025

The St. James LGBTQ+/allies affinity group is writing holiday cards for the Pinta Pride Project. The Pinta Pride Project sends handwritten holiday cards to queer people throughout the US and Canada who do not receive support or affirmation from their families. The group will meet every Saturday in November from 11 a.m.-noon in Kyle's Place to write cards. The cards are kindly handmade by Beth Mitchell, so all people need to do is show up and bring a pen! Anyone is welcome to join us in writing cards.

Season of Faith Pledge Drive- How to Pledge

October 29, 2025

We are three weeks into our Season of Faith at St. James Cathedral, and what a wonderful journey it has been so far! Thank you to everyone who has already made a pledge—your generosity is a sign of the deep faith and commitment that sustain our community.

Our goal this year is $850,000 and 220 pledges, and together we are making great progress. Each gift, no matter the size, moves us closer to that goal and strengthens the mission and ministry of the Cathedral.

Now is the time to make your pledge. This Season of Faith is our opportunity to reflect on God’s blessings in our lives and to respond with gratitude and generosity. Just as those who came before us built this Cathedral in faith, we are called to carry that legacy forward for generations to come.

Ways to Pledge:

  • Fill out a pledge card in the pews and place it in the offering plate.
  • Pledge online through the Cathedral website
  • Call the Cathedral office at 312-751-3570 and make your pledge by phone.
  • Mail your pledge card directly to the Cathedral at 65 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611.

Let us continue this journey together, with hearts open to God’s abundance and trust in what we can accomplish as a community of faith.
