Choral Evensong in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th Birthday

June 03, 2016

Saturday, June 25, 5:00 p.m.
The Cathedral Choir
The Rt. Rev. Michael Turnbull, Retired Bishop of Durham
Music of Parry, Stanford, Vaughan Williams, Leighton

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II turned 90 in April, a fact which has been celebrated widely in Britain and in many other countries of the world. Many British churches and cathedrals are celebrating this event in June, around the Queen's 'official birthday' (a perk of the Sovereign!) and, at the request of Her Majesty's Consul General in Chicago, we will also celebrate this milestone with a special Choral Evensong at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.

The preacher will be the Right Reverend Michael Turnbull, retired Bishop of Durham, who is well known in England for his expertise on matters of church and state. The Cathedral Choir will sing some of the major English choral works associated with the monarchy, including Vaughan Williams' setting of the Old Hundreth and Parry's famous anthem I was glad.  Jacqueline
